Pokering

What can I say, it's been a bit since I posted. Yooooo 11 days to be exact. Oh, that's a craps reference for those who don't gamble. I used to. Boy am I glad I don't anymore.

I was still in West Virginia when I last posted. To report the results of that 4 day trip is disappointing as I ended up ahead only $29. The problem is that hotel expenses added up to $356.71, plus I paid $12 in tolls on I-77, so for the trip I was down $339.71. On the last night I lost a big pot to a 3 outer. I flopped a straight and the guy had top pair and a gutshot. I bet $10, he shoved for $150 and I made the obvious (to me at the time against this guy) call with the second nut straight. He hit one of the other three sixes. The casino was closing 30 minutes later and I was leaving the next morning so I had to accept the loss for the weekend.

Obviously, I've made back those losses. I've been in Cherokee most of the time since I returned from WV and I've upticked about $1380. Gas, hotels and food continue to wreak havoc on my take, but I'm working on streamlining the operation. I'm cutting expenses and spending more time at the tables and I feel like I'll be building my roll a bit more efficiently over the next few weeks. The game here continues to be easy to manage and it appears that I'll still be getting free mid-week hotel stays through the middle of October so the only thing that could stand between me and a growing roll is my own mood and self discipline. Those two beasts are tough, but I'm trying really hard to focus.

Yesterday, after wildly throwing the virtual chips about for an hour and getting myself stuck $150, I calmed down and focused. I bought in for another hundo and ran it up to $285. I then took a break for dinner and returned at about 9:30 pm. I was completely focused and tuned in. I was making some scary reads and some agressive bets. I once made a big call on the river and King Kong, an asian guy who's become a regular, told me I was a scary dude. He in fact is scary so that was a decent compliment.

I'm not sure, but I'm considering a break this weekend. I feel like I need to recharge a little. I'm getting tired. I've been on the go for weeks and maybe I need to sleep for a couple days. Saturday is a big night for the poker room here, but I really don't seem to do any better than I do mid-week so I don't see much difference in when I take a break. The big plus to breaking over the weekend is that I don't have a free room. Yep, that decision just got made as I typed that. If I can get myself to take a break at all, then the weekend is when I'll do it. But no matter how tired I get, I do have a tough time dragging myself away. Who knows, we'll see.

  1. Sounds like you have a read on this one.

  2. So what is the long term plan Troop? You re-building the roll to head back to Vegas, or is this your permanant home...'cause hotels aren't too permanant.

  3. Well Scott, that's a tough question to answer at the moment. I have a plan but it all depends on factors inside and outside of poker. The plan for the next month and a half are to continue spanking the game in Cherokee and to get an apartment. The location of the apartment is to be announced another time. As far as Vegas goes, well, that isn't what I want. It will, however, remain a last resort option. Beyond this, I know what I want. I hope I get it. When I do, I'll let you know.

  4. You should buy one of those Dodge Ram vans - they're cheap you can find one without too many miles on craigslist for like 2k - and camp out in Wal mart parking lots or national parks, depending on how "natural" you're feeling. It would make all your poker jaunts profitable. But no child molesting!

  5. Are'nt you going to post about your session on the night of labor day?
I sat across the table from you.
We did not tangle too much except when you check raised my flop bet.

  6. uh-oh. I've been made. Trying really hard to remember check raising a flop bet. Hmmmm, I remember re-raising my first hand of the night preflop with AA. I also remember calling with TT from the SB and flopping a set on an all diamond flop, but I led out, no check raising there. What's more alarming now is that you know who I am but I don't know who you are. In all honesty, my thoughts were far, far from the table. I only played a little over an hour and a half and then I drove far away. Damn, I wish I could remember... Oh wait, did you have 20 white checks on the table that you were shiuffling? I remember thinking I'd seen you before but I couldn't remember enough to say anything. Was that you? Would you tell me if it was?

  7. I do not mind telling you who I am because I was playing there on vacation.
I was sitting across you on the table next to pit boss.
I had a cap turned backwards.

I was the guy who check called on K88 flop, check raised a deuce turn, allin on river.
Villain folded Kx and the whole table put me on K8.
Guess what I had in SB?

  8. Ahhh, I was thinking about Sunday night, not monday. I was dumb when I woke up yesterday. I do remember hearing someone say something about K8, like "That looks like K8," or something. Sadly, being lazy I did not pay attention to that hand. I'm trying to remember where I sat. I do remember someone called PitBoss. I just can't remember. Damn it!! Was it at night? Like around 11:00pm? I think I got up and wandered into the pit with a guy I know. I was so unfocused.
